Everyone knows that red wines are demanding when it comes to the glass that you pour them into. However, the bouquet of a good white wine also deserves the right goblet in order to be fully appreciated. Sommeliers divide white wines into masculine and feminine types. Dry, fresh grape varieties such as Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Green Veltliner can develop best in a white wine goblet with a tall, narrow body. The glass walls are drawn slightly higher and the shape tapers off considerably at the top. This type of white wine glass is suitable for all white wines with light, sparkling notes. The goblets for masculine white wines are offered in Villeroy & Boch collections, specially designed to enhance wine enjoyment.
Soft, round white wines such as classic Chardonnay are classed as feminine wines. These white wines are characterised by charming notes that require slightly more space to unfold their bouquet. Therefore, goblets with a generous body are the right choice – as is the case too for other feminine white wines such as Pinot Blanc or Gewürztraminer. Their rounded shape provides a really large surface to allow the air and oxygen to come into contact with the wine. This should also be taken into account when serving the wine, as a pleasantly cool drinking temperature is important, particularly with feminine white wines. This type of wine glass is also available in Villeroy & Boch's different glass collections.
Villeroy & Boch's white wine goblets are made from pure crystal glass. We still use traditional handcrafts for the exclusive glasses of certain collections. The glasses are hand-blown and in certain cases further refined by engraving, cutting or sandblasting. The high quality of the glasses can be recognised by the different aspects. Not only does each white wine goblet stand firmly and straight on its base, but the thin glass walls enable you to establish the temperature of the wine just by touching them, and their soft edges ensure a pleasant drinking sensation. With the right cleaning product and when given plenty of space, the white wine goblets can also be washed in the dishwasher.
The white wine goblets from Villeroy & Boch have been designed not just to enhance the wine's bouquet but also to create a harmonious setting at your table. This means that as well as wine, you can always pour your guests a glass of mineral water from a carafe or fill up a water glass from the same collection. Combine the slim crystal glasses with a dinner set made of gleaming premium bone porcelain for an elegant dinner. In almost complete contrast, coloured white wine goblets can break up a table completely laid with white porcelain or enhance dinner plates featuring patterns with the same colour. As with wine itself, you should simply try out and experiment until you find the right white wine goblet for your table decoration.
