Adding colour to your home with floral decorations

There’s no shortage of ideas when it comes to floral decorations, but it’s important to remember that each area in your home calls for a different approach. For example, for an opulent table decoration, you could arrange a lush bouquet spilling over the top of a large vase. For a small burst of colour, smaller receptacles such as cups or mugs are ideal.
A little more restraint is usually required on the kitchen table, as you still need space here for everyday dining. A practical solution is individual flowers arranged decoratively in a small vase. A pretty floral decoration displayed in a glass is a great way to brighten up your meals every day.
If your table is big enough, you can go for a very lavish flower arrangement. This kind of floral display looks good in a living room or dining room, for example. On window ledges, bedroom cabinets or shelves, halls, stairways or an entrance area, smaller arrangements are a better choice. Artificial flowers or dried flowers in the form of wreaths or garlands are also a good way to create a welcoming effect at the front door, on doors inside the home, and in areas where you merely pass through.

Encapsulate your personal style

Table decorations should include flowers that capture your unique style. For example, a modern floral display works well in a contemporary interior. Alternatively, make use of contrast to accentuate the dominant style. A beautifully airy summer bouquet on a sleek coffee table will create a striking effect that really draws attention to your modern interior style.
Using the right receptacle is key to presenting your flower arrangements. The right vase will transform a single sprig of flowers into an eye-catching feature. Villeroy & Boch’s beautiful vase collections offer endless possibilities for creative floral displays. For example, the strikingly textured vases in the Manufacture collection come in a range of contemporary matt colours. Combine different-sized vases and arrange single stems to make your flower holders really stand out.

Tip:

For greater stability, secure the stems or twigs in a flower arrangement base, also known as a flower frog. This is a particularly good solution for vases or bowls with larger openings.

Creating your own modern flower arrangements

If you enjoy decorating your home with flowers, are creative and have a love of plants, creating your own floral displays can be quite simple. For modern and long-lasting arrangements, dried flowers are a great choice. However, fresh herbs or succulents are also ideal for crafting more distinctive floral designs.
If you prefer a fresh bouquet, you can use different flowers each season to vary the look: tulips in spring, sunflowers in summer, asters in autumn and roses or gerberas in winter – there are endless possibilities! To display your modern floral arrangements stylishly, it’s crucial to pick the right vase.

Find the right vase for your flower arrangements

The length and quantity of your flowers need to be right for the vase. The vase’s shape, colour and the size of its opening size all influence the overall impact. The Lave collection, for example, has vases in different shapes and in a subtle range of colours. You’re sure to find the perfect vase for any kind of bouquet in this range.
As a general rule, long-stemmed flowers look better in cylindrical vases than in round-bodied receptacles. Vases with a large opening are ideal for opulent bouquets. Also note that at least one third of the individual flower stalks should protrude above the rim of the vase. Glass vases highlight the foliage, while opaque vases draw attention to the blooms.

Small vases

Small vases can be clustered together or dispersed around the room. They don’t take up much space, so this is a very easy way to brighten up a small room.

Glass vases

If you are using a glass vase, trim the leaves from the stems. This will ensure that the overall appearance remains clean and uncluttered.

Cylindrical vases

Less is more. Avoid arranging too many flowers in a cylindrical vase. If it is too densely packed, your arrangement will look rigid.

Round vases

The elegant curves of a round vase coordinate beautifully with rounded blooms such as hydrangeas or dahlias to create a stunning display. A slightly angled arrangement will reveal all the beauty of large flowers.

Coloured vases

Glass and porcelain vases in the same colour group add a vibrant touch to any floral display. Mix and match vases of various heights and shapes with flowers in contrasting hues to create a wonderfully joyful effect.

TIP

Care

To avoid stubborn stains, make sure you change the water in your vases regularly, especially with glass vases. The flowers will also benefit and stay fresh for longer. To remove stains, rub with a sponge. To give glass and porcelain vases some extra shine, wash them with washing-up liquid and wipe using a clean, dry cloth.
