Can you build a shower or bathtub in front of a window?

Particularly in small bathrooms, the idea of placing the shower or bath by the window often comes up. In principle, it is not a problem to install the shower cubicle by the window if you bear a few things in mind. It is important that the room behind the bath or shower receives sufficient daylight. It also depends on the type of shower or bath and the installation.

Windows in the shower area: advantages and disadvantages

Advantages

Space utilisation: In small bathrooms, it is possible to install the shower by the window to save space. Natural light: A window brings daylight into the shower, creating a bright and inviting atmosphere and improving the sense of space.

Disadvantages

Privacy: For more privacy, a privacy screen at the window in the shower area is absolutely essential. Water and moisture damage: Contact with water can damage the window or cause the frame to become mouldy.

Shower in front of the window: what to consider

.

  • Plan

If you want a shower in front of the window, first measure the area on the floor where you want your shower to stand. Also measure the walls.

  • Walk-in showers

A walk-in shower at ground level offers luxury and spaciousness. It is particularly practical and flexible, even for older people.

  • Solutions for small bathrooms

A small bathroom in particular is predestined for a shower in front of the window. Elongated or square bathrooms offer hardly any other space for the shower. So the space by the window is your best option. Villeroy & Boch offers shower trays in various sizes that can be optimally adapted to the space available.

  • Colour concepts:

Choose light and friendly colours to make the room appear larger and more inviting.

Advantages and disadvantages of the bathtub under the window

Advantages

View: A bathtub under the skylight offers a relaxing view of trees or stars, especially when bathing in the dark. Design: Bathtubs near the window create a luxurious and modern ambience. The clean lines and sleek look give the bathroom a stylish and timeless look.

Disadvantages

Cleaning effort: A bathtub under the window requires additional cleaning effort, as water splashes are more likely to stain the window. Window sill as a disruptive factor: Although a window sill provides storage space, it can also be an obstacle and increase the risk of bumping your head.

How to position the bathtub under the window

.

  • If you want to position a bathtub in front of a window, you should also measure the available space first. When planning, be sure to consider the connections and the floor drain. This will ultimately determine the position of your bathtub.

  • Make sure that the bath mixer tap is fitted on one short side. This way, the mixer tap does not get in the way of the window. If this is not possible, opt for a narrow mixer tap that does not protrude far upwards.

  • Tips for a freestanding bathtub

A free-standing bath in front of the window looks luxurious and inviting. Of course, the connections for the bath mixer tap and floor drain must be positioned so that the bath fits directly under the window. Make sure that the tap does not obstruct the window - you should still be able to open it.

Safety note:

Pay attention to the height of the bottom window frame. If there is a risk of falling out, you should either install a window with a fixed lower section or install fall protection such as metal bars.
