At a glance

  • Before buying, measure the available space for your bath.

  • The size of your bath will depend on your own height.

  • Size, shape, bath taps – important points to consider.

Basic questions before purchasing a new bath

  • How much space is available for the bath?

  • What shape of bath would you like: angular, oval, round?

  • Which material for your bath: acrylic, mineral cast or quartz?

  • Would you like your new bath to be freestanding or integrated?

  • A round or angular bath tap: which shape appeals?

Note:

Measure the available space as this will be a deciding factor for your new bath.

What size should the bath be for different heights of users?

The dimensions of your bath will, of course, depend on your own height. Many specialist shops allow you to try baths for size. You can test Villeroy & Boch baths too at local retailers before making your decision. As a general guide, the bath should be around five to ten centimetres wider than your shoulders. The length should be approximately the same distance as from your neck to your feet to allow you to lie back comfortably.

Are there baths with enough space for two?

Some extra-wide and corner baths offer enough space for two adults. Villeroy & Boch’s "Aveo New Generation" bath offers plenty of space to relax and impresses with its elegant design.

Find the perfect bath: size, installation and position

  • Measure yourself and everyone else who will be using the bath to work out the perfect length and width.

  • Find the perfect backrest by measuring the distance between your shoulders and buttocks.

  • The reclining surface should be as long as the distance between your buttocks and your feet.

  • Consider installation cost and effort. A different type of installation may be required for freestanding baths in comparison to built-in models.

  • Plan the position of your bath carefully. Make sure there is enough space for access and cleaning.
