Is it possible to install a shower or bath in front a window?

In small bathrooms in particular, people often consider installing their shower or bath beside a window. In general, there is nothing to stop you placing your shower cabinet beside a window, but there are a few points to bear in mind. It is important to make sure sufficient daylight reaches the rest of the room behind the bath or shower. The options will also depend on the type of shower or bath and its installation.

Advantages

Use of space: in small bathrooms, installing the shower beside the window can save space.

Disadvantages

.

  • Planning

If you want to install your shower in front of a window, start by measuring the area on the floor where you would like to position your shower. Measure the walls too.

  • Walk-in showers

A walk-in shower at ground level offers luxury and space. This is a particularly practical and flexible solution, including for elderly users.

  • Solutions for small bathrooms

Installing the shower in front of a window is a particularly good solution for small bathrooms. In an elongated or square bathroom, there is almost no other available space for the shower. This makes the area by the window the best option. Villeroy & Boch offers shower trays in various sizes that can be ideally adapted to different layouts.

  • Colour concepts:

Choose light and welcoming colours to make the room look larger and more inviting.

Design: a bath beside a window looks luxurious and modern. The clear lines and sleek look create a stylish and timeless impression in the bathroom.

Disadvantages

Cleaning time and effort: a bath under a window requires additional cleaning as splashes of water are more likely to stain the window.

Window sill as a nuisance factor: a window sill provides storage space, but it can also be an obstacle and increase the risk of bumping your head.

How to position a bath under a window

.

  • If you would like to install your bath in front of a window, start by measuring the available space. Make sure you consider connections and floor drainage in your plans as these will ultimately determine the position of your bath.

  • Fit the bath tap on one of the short sides of the tub. This will make sure the tap does not get in the way of the window. If this is not possible, choose a narrow tap that is not too tall.

  • Tips for a freestanding bath

A freestanding bath in front of a window looks luxurious and inviting. The bath tap connections and floor drainage will, of course, need to be positioned to allow the bath to be fitted directly under the window. Make sure the tap does not obstruct the window – you should still be able to open it.

Safety note:

Pay attention to the height of the lower window frame. If there is a risk of falling out, you should either install a window with a fixed lower section or fit fall protection such as metal bars.
