How to remove hair dye from a washbasin!

Have splashes of dye dripped onto your washbasin when colouring your hair? Remove the hair dye immediately to prevent damage to the material. Rinse the dye off with warm water. If any stains remain, try the following cleaning tips:

Scouring cream and baking powder to tackle hair dye on the washbasin

For stubborn hair dye stains on ceramic, use scouring cream or baking powder. Clean the stains with a soft sponge to avoid scratching the surface of the washbasin.

Simple household remedies: bicarbonate of soda to remove stains

Bicarbonate of soda is a mild scouring agent that can also be used to remove stubborn hair dye stains from ceramic. However, it is less suitable for sensitive materials such as porcelain and enamel.

Vinegar as a household all-rounder

You can also use vinegar to remove hair dye from your washbasin. Simply dilute the vinegar with water, leave the solution to work for 30 minutes and then rinse off.

Take care with washbasins in natural materials!

Various cleaning products can be used to treat stains on your ceramic washbasin. However, never use chemical or abrasive products on natural materials. Rinse hair dye stains off straight away. If any discolouration remains, wipe the area with soap or an acid-free product. A mixture of baking powder or bicarbonate of soda and water can be used for delicate washbasins.

Tip

With all cleaning methods, it is important to test the products carefully on an inconspicuous area.

How to avoid stains on the washbasin

  • To prevent any accidental drips of hair dye on your washbasin, line it with kitchen paper. An old towel will also protect it from splashes of dye.

  • Do not apply hair dye directly over the washbasin. And spread an old towel over the floor to protect it from stains.

  • If any dye does end up on your washbasin when colouring your hair, wipe it away immediately before it has time to dry.
