Quality and durability

With high-quality stainless steel cutlery

Stainless steel cutlery stands for robustness and durability. A high-quality alloy such as 18/10 chrome-nickel steel is a guarantee of top-class cutlery. The chrome content in the stainless steel makes the cutlery resistant to rust, while nickel contributes to acid resistance and enhances the cutlery’s lustre. This material makes a stainless steel cutlery set easy to care for and resistant to everyday challenges such as aggressive cleaning products or scratches. This makes stainless steel the ideal choice for high-quality cutlery, for everyday use as well as special occasions.

Modern stainless steel cutlery

Varied designs and functions

Picking out the perfect stainless steel cutlery set from Villeroy & Boch is about more than just the number of pieces. Style and colour choices play an important role too.

A standard stainless steel cutlery set for six people usually consists of 24 pieces – six knives, six dinner spoons, six forks and six coffee spoons. A 30-piece set will also include six cake or dessert forks, perfect for ending a meal on a sweet note.

Designed with ergonomics in mind, the cutlery items are a comfortable and pleasant fit for both left-handed and right-handed users. Their gently curving shapes feel soft and smooth, a sign of Villeroy & Boch's commitment to both design and comfort.
Expand your tableware range with a selection of practical cutlery accessories. From elegant salad servers to special dessert or fish cutlery, or extra-sharp steak knives, these carefully crafted stainless steel pieces are the perfect complement to your culinary creations.

Basic rules for washing your cutlery

Villeroy & Boch stainless steel cutlery is generally dishwasher-safe. However, when hand-washing stainless steel cutlery, it is important to always use mild detergents and soft cloths. Avoid abrasive cleaners or hard sponges, as these can scratch the surface over time. After washing, the cutlery should be dried immediately to prevent water marks.

Avoiding and removing surface rust

Surface rust is a common phenomenon that can affect even high-quality stainless steel cutlery, although the cutlery itself does not rust. The cause of surface rust often lies in the dishwasher process.

During cleaning, rust particles can detach from non-stainless items, such as the screws in the machine or exposed parts of the dishwasher rack, and transfer to the stainless steel cutlery. In the humid environment of a dishwasher, the iron dust can oxidise and settle on your cutlery in the form of brownish stains – this is surface rust.

How to polish stainless steel cutlery

To give your stainless steel cutlery a radiant sheen, start by gently cleaning, ideally using a soft microfibre cloth and a special stainless steel polish. After this initial step, for extra shine, apply gentle movements along the polished surface using a cotton cloth. Please note that daily use and regular cleaning in a dishwasher may cause a matt film to form on the cutlery. This can be removed by regular, careful polishing which will restore your cutlery’s original lustre.

Please note that matt cutlery should not be polished. This is to preserve its surface finish.

Hollow handles vs. monobloc

Cutting through the differences

The choice between hollow-handled and monobloc knives goes beyond design preferences – it also concerns quality, workmanship and cutting performance. Hollow-handled knives consist of a forged blade and a handle in two parts.

The blade, made from high-quality blade steel, guarantees lasting sharpness, excellent cutting properties and robust stability. These knives are designed for the most intensive requirements and stand out for their easy care.

Monobloc knives, on the other hand, are formed and stamped from a single piece of steel and their handle and blade are made from the same material. They are less expensive to manufacture, but do not offer quite the same cutting performance and balance as hollow-handled knives.

Stainless steel cutlery

The perfect selection for every occasion

Villeroy & Boch's modern stainless steel cutlery designs are a tribute to versatility and elegance. They enhance any table both visually and functionally. Each piece is designed to highlight the style of your crockery – from avantgarde to clear minimalist shapes or wider shapes to perfectly complement large plates and robust pottery ceramic. The cutlery’s durability is ensured by the use of top-quality steel alloys that make it particularly hard-wearing and easy to care for. Even after frequent use, the surface remains shiny and appealing. The cutlery is also reliably dishwasher-safe for even easier care. Different finishing processes, such as plating with fine layers of silver or gold, give the individual collections an exclusive character, making them eye-catching features on any table.
