Test report 5: The hygiene champion has convinced us.

Gunther Zielinski

At the start of the test I couldn't really imagine what differences there would be between our beloved, comfortable Subway from Villeroy & Boch and the new hygiene champ. We had chosen this variant not only due to its appearance but also due to its "secondary values" such as the beading effect, so what should now be so much better?

The "Aha effect" came straight after its installation.

The beading effect is much more distinctive. Not only the test liquid, but also "natural" test substances show much less tendency to adhere to the surface, so that standard cleaning by means of a toilet brush after using the toilet - if actually required – is much quicker to do. Basic cleaning is particularly pleasant. Goodbye WC Duck (toilet cleaner). A simple cloth and a little standard toilet cleaner are now sufficient to clean where blind scrubbing under the toilet rim with a brush used to be necessary. One wipe over the moulded but fully open inner rim of the WC and that's it. And you can actually see that the WC is clean. Who checks under the rim of a conventional toilet with the help of a mirror? I wouldn't want to know what accumulates there in the course of time despite regular cleaning. The seat's Soft Closing function is also very pleasant. High-quality haptics, heavy but very smooth. Even our 4 year old princess can't manage to make the lid bang. It closes slowly and quietly.

We have been convinced!

All in all, I find the concept of the hygiene champ and its implementation very convincing. The only weak point, if you can call it one, is the reflection of the water jets at the bottom of the WC, which I initially thought was material discolouration. If Villeroy & Boch find a solution to this, then I would not just give an A but an A+.

Test report 4: They even thought about children!

Gunther Zielinski

Our daughter was thrilled by the renovation and then tried everything out right away, lifting the lid up and down – too bad that it does not bang any more. We think it is great of course – all thanks to the lid's soft closing function! The soft close works great. You simply give the lid a slight nudge and it will slowly and softly close on its own. The annoying banging is a thing of the past and little fingers can no longer be squished by the falling lid. And while we are on the subject of the toilet seat, this brings up another important item for young families: The old child toilet seats for our daughter still fit great. So her little friends can still come over to visit.

Comfortingly clean

While we are on the subject of visiting children. You cannot always choose where small children will play with one another or with their stuffed animals and toys. So it is wonderful to know that the toilet is always really clean and bacteria do not stand a chance on the AntiBac surfaces. As I mentioned at the start, our daughter tested everything about the new toilet! Even her large teddy bear Ben needed to take part and try sitting on the toilet seat. Everything went great - even he sat comfortably on the hygiene champion!

Test report 3: First scepticism, then a positive surprise!

Gunther Zielinski

We were highly sceptical right before we installed the hygiene champion. An acquaintance told us about his experience with a rimless toilet from the DIY store. The flush capacity was minimal. The flush simply squished the paper and remnants were always left behind because it could not properly flush. He returned the toilets twice - the result was always the same. I was going to really keep on eye on the hygiene champion's flush and it was excellent! The DirectFlush system is cleverly designed, reaches every surface in the toilet and generates a whirl that totally and completely transports the contents of the toilet into the sewerage system. I am really interested what our acquaintances will have to say when they see our hygiene champ. If they do not trade in their DIY-store toilet for the high quality hygiene champ, then they only have themselves to blame.

No place for bacteria

Compared to our previous toilet, no visual difference can be seen to the new Subway 2.0 DirectFlush. When I put the blue test fluid in the old Subway before we removed it, I was very happy with the test results. The vast majority beaded off and no more blue could be seen after flushing.  I was even more surprised with the hygiene champ: Even without flushing only minimal traces could be found on the bowl ceramic. Most of it simply fell directly in the water. Bacteria have truly no chance of sticking around. In addition the new Subway 2.0 also has the new AnitBac technology. The special glaze prevents the bacteria from settling on the surface - particularly important for families with small children. Yet another reason the Subway 2.0 is truly child friendly.

Test report 2: Testing a toilet in every day use – great idea!

Anja Zielinksi

I think it's great that Villeroy & Boch is testing its new toilet with private individuals at home and is publishing their impressions and opinions. The company must be really sure of itself as this is not standard. At least I have never heard of any other manufacturer daring to take such as step. We were so thrilled when Villeroy & Boch selected us as testers, as there were plenty of applicants for the test. After confirmation, everything went quick and easy. Some basic information, setting an installation date and just a few days later the plumber came with our new prize.

The name says it all

DirectFlush Subway 2.0 with CeramicPlus and AntiBac surface treatment is the actual name of our new toilet. Or simply hygiene champ (much easier to say). In any case I am truly interested, whether it will do everything that Villeroy & Boch promises. The toilet is said to be easy to clean and much more hygienic than standard toilets. As the mother of a small child. this is particularly important as our daughter sometimes plays in the bathroom. If the room has fewer bacteria, I feel much more at ease.

In any case, my first impression of the hygiene champ is really good. It has a brilliant shine, nice surface, sturdy cover and modern design. I really did not expect anything else as we used to have a previous model from Villeroy & Boch and we were very happy with it. Now it is time to start testing. We will see as to whether cleaning the toilet will be much more fun from now on – I bet it will be:)

Test report 1: Am I on TV?

Gunther Zielinski

Being able to product test the hygiene champ is great. And then Villeroy & Boch asked if a film team can take part in the installation – of course they could. Today was the day, the guys just left and it was really interesting! Camera men, sound technicians, a director, lights, the plumber with his tools and the new toilet: crammed into to the six square metres of our guest bathroom. Everything went great. It was fascinating to see how professional Villeroy & Boch is with things like this. The plumber was a real expert. I think he only needed about thirty minutes to remove the old toilet and install the new one. But of course, the director wanted to film the individual steps and scenes repeatedly from different perspectives and with various settings. As is normal in films.

In the end, my wife and I were filmed – we were asked to describe our first impression of the hygiene champ. Villeroy & Boch is filming a video documentary about the entire test campaign. I am looking forward to the final video. Let's see where it will be shown. I am interested in seeing whether my scenes remain in the film or if they will be cut. Oh yeah, my first impression of the hygiene champ is very good, I'll tell you more later.
