Test report 6: We are really thrilled with the new WC

Heide Gebhardt

After approximately four weeks of intensive use, we can now complete the test phase with the hygiene champion. We are really thrilled with the new WC. Its great visual appearance really enhances out bathroom. Then there is also its high functionality with regard to cleanliness – everything can be cleaned conveniently and easily; this WC does not have any hidden dirty spots. We now save a lot of time and agents when we clean it. That saves money and gives us more time for the family. We will most certainly choose the hygiene champ when we replace our other two WCs. We can also recommend the hygiene champ to others without hesitation.

The collaboration with Villeroy & Boch and their assistance were outstanding! Furthermore, it was very interesting to test the WC so thoroughly and learn about WC technology. The test was great fun and we would gladly participate again in any future tests. Thank you Villeroy & Boch!

Test report 5: Friends and relations praise the seating comfort and sense of hygiene.

Heide Gebhardt

The reactions of my parents, siblings, relations and friends to the newly installed hygiene champ in our bathroom has been extremely positive. Everyone has taken a shine to the appealing shape and the friendly, bright colour. The high seating comfort and particularly pleasant sense of hygiene are repeatedly praised. I'm often asked how I achieve the noticeable cleanliness in the WC and which agents I use. The problems that occur in conventional WC bowls were described quite openly whist talking about this. The staining and often persistent deposits in the rim area are the most frequent cause of annoyance. My parents said that they had to replace their WCs a number of times as they became unsightly over the years due to deposits - despite careful and intensive cleaning. Everyone was full of praise for the Soft Closing function of the WC seat. Otherwise closing the WC cover often causes a loud noise. The hygiene champ lowers the seat very smoothly and quietly.

Ease of cleaning is now important for the purchase decision.

The question about the purchase price of the Subway 2.0 with DirectFlush was asked a quite a few times. In many discussions it became clear that the purchase price of a new WC only plays a subordinate role. The shape and colour as well as the overall visual impression of the WC are decisive for the purchase decision. Since seeing the hygiene champ, the hygiene and ease of cleaning factors are now also important, so I have been told on numerous occasions.

Test report 4: Antibacterial surface gives you a good feeling.

Heide Gebhardt

As the name already says, the Hygiene Champion is meant to be especially hygienic according to the manufacturer. One of the unique features that contributes to this is the innovative surface technology "AntiBac". It has an antibacterial effect and is claimed to reduce the growth of bacteria by more than 99.9%. That’s something we cannot actually test ourselves, but it's a good feeling! We have a small baby and are therefore very happy about the reduced number of germs in the WC. Particularly in the winter months when you heard about all the cases of stomach flu, it was comforting to know that our new WC has an antibacterial surface.

Fewer unpleasant odours.

Overall, we feel more confident with respect to hygiene than before. addition, unlike our previous WC, unpleasant odours do not develop as quickly. That may be attributable to the AntiBac surface. What a pity that the Hygiene Champion is not yet able to clean itself! We clean the WC every other day. Even if this should once not work out, you can be sure that the WC will not develop into a “source of germs” – very good!

Fewer cleaning agents.

What is noticeable is that we are using fewer cleaning agents. A very important aspect to us, corrosive cleaning agents only add to the problem of environmental pollution. The Hygiene Champion is quicker and easier to clean. You no longer have to use any corrosive cleaning agents, milder cleaners with natural ingredients are enough.

Conclusion about the feeling of hygiene.

To a large extent, we can only rely on our feeling. We are not able to verify the antibacterial effect. It’s true that negative odours do not develop so quickly. There are also no deposits. In addition, we use fewer cleaning agents. All in all, the WC makes a very hygienic impression and we are very satisfied.

Test report 3: Putting the surface, seat and flush to the test.

Heide Gebhardt

First, the CeramicPlus surface. We were given a blue test liquid for this purpose which is ideal for staging a colourful demonstration of the “beading effect”. As previously reported, it’s impressive how the liquid really does bead off in large drops. The CeramicPlus surface coating is something worth seeing. The whole thing has a very high quality look. Due to the special surface, cleaning is also easier because nothing is able to build up any more. You have the feeling that the WC flushes more cleanly.

A very useful feature!

The Quick Release feature of the WC seat also impressed us. It’s very easy to use. Removing and reattaching the WC seat takes no time at all. That was not possible with our previous WC. This meant that some places located around the seat attachment could not be cleaned and there were unsightly deposits. All the previously concealed places can now be effortlessly cleaned – a very useful feature! Even if you do not think it, the WC lid is still stable and fits securely on the WC. In my opinion, another point illustrating the high quality of the Hygiene Champion!

Great flushing technology.

What we find most impressive is the DirectFlush technology. Without a flushing rim the entire interior bowl is rinsed thoroughly with water. They say: “Water finds its own way”, but in this case the flushing water is guided precisely through the entire bowl. No area remains unflushed. No drop splashes over the bowl. I can imagine that a lot of engineers spent a long time working out the design of the water flow!

Test report 2: The hygiene champion undergoes cleaning test

Heide Gebhardt

We have now been using the Villeroy & Boch hygiene champion for a few days. Today our test is focussing on the ease of cleaning. According to the brochure, the WC provides convincing arguments: antibacterial and dirt-repellent surface, no flushing rim where dirt and limescale can accumulate, a Quick Release function by means of which the WC seat can be easily removed.

Quicker and more thorough cleaning

In everyday use, the WC impresses in particular with its surface and rimless bowl. The flushing water beads wonderfully off the entire inner bowl of the hygiene champion - this can be demonstrated impressively with the blue test liquid. The liquid collects in big drops. The entire bowl is flushed thoroughly and none of the liquid remains in the bowl. The flushing rim is also flushed properly. Deposits or limescale cannot accumulate here. The entire flushing rim is easy to clean and a special WC brush is not required for laboriously cleaning along the inside of the flushing rim. The WC can thus be cleaned quicker and more thoroughly – great!

Quick Release – Easy and uncomplicated

We also tested the Quick Release function. It is much easier than one imagines and really very practical. The WC seat can be quickly removed for thorough cleaning of the bowl and seat. On the old WC, dust often collected around the WC seat fasteners and quickly became unsightly. That can no longer happen. A good idea that really makes cleaning easier! You can simply wipe along everywhere with a cloth and clean the WC. So far, the hygiene champion has lived up to its name. We are impressed with its ease of cleaning!

Test report 1: A high quality WC with great features

Heide Gebhardt

The Hygiene Champion was installed in our house on 29 January 2015. Our bathroom is about 10 years old and fitted with white tiles. The old WC had become unsightly after 10 years of use. The colour of the new WC fits in perfectly into the room. Our first impression is the WC impresses with its high quality shine and its simple design.

A quality product with a high degree of sitting comfort

The Hygiene Champion leaves no doubt that it is a quality product. The Subway 2.0 is sturdy and features an ultra-modern design with outstanding workmanship. Furthermore, it is bigger and more solid than our old WC – with “high sitting comfort”. This is because the Hygiene Champion is slightly higher compared to our previous WC. The new height initially takes getting used to, but is actually more comfortable. What we particularly like is that the WC cover and seat lower slowly and close silently. The interior of the Hygiene Champions looks high-tech. It is designed with an open flushing rim; the water rolls off in beads thanks to the special coating.

Our expectations of the Hygiene Champion

We expect that the new WC will require less cleaning and will retain its special features (beading effect, etc.) for a long time. It will be interesting to see what effect, if any, the particularly hard water in our region will have on the WC. Our previous toilet had considerable lime scale deposits. We’re looking forward to the tests with the blue test liquid that are designed to demonstrate the dirt-repellent surface finish. I am also eager to try out the Quick Release function of the WC seat that allows the seat to be easily removed for cleaning.
